Contributions To A History Of Developmental Psychology

It can be said that a scientific field comes of ages when it begins to acknowledge its history. If so, then this volume marks the growth of development psychology beyond its adolescence. To be sure, that growth has been somewhat retarded. I still recall my dismary, when, in the late 1940s, the chairman of a leading psychology department in one of Americas major universities summarily announced that no course in the history of psychology would henceforth be taught, since, in his view, modern scientific psychology had no connection with and had nothing to learn from, its past.
